Christmas Holiday! Winning!

One down, one more to go.

From Tuesday and forward, I´ll be having my Christmas break. Well deserved, and some time to do some serious grinding. Doing both school and poker was harder than I thought, especially when there’s pretty much no motivation for either. Weird thing is that I’m feeling really well and “in the zone” in my everyday life. But still, there’s really no motivation to put in the hours. Guess it will come back once I’m starting having loads of free time and nothing better to do during Christmas :)

..is closing in. I’m actually pretty much done gift shopping for this year, and I’m usually the guy running around the day before christmas buying stuff in panic.

Keeping my budget will be tough though, but I´ll manage. Having a budget for every month is a new thing for me, but I’m really liking cutting down on unnecessary spending. It has taken a couple of months, but I’m down to like 50% of what I wasted on everyday spending a year ago. It’s not even that hard once you start thinking about it in everyday life. I’m trying to do it one step at a time – cutting corners here and there.

A few years ago poker was pretty printing money if you were good at it. Today, things are different, and I’m trying really hard to adapt in time. I mean, I don’t wanna end up like greece in a couple of years. The stock market is pretty cool right now aswell, so I´ll rather put my money there instead of going out drinking or something. I’m currently buying for a fixed sum each month – spreading my deposits over 1.5 years. Longterm, I think it will be hard losing money buying at these prices.

Time to study for my exams. Later skaters!

It’s hard figuring out what to do with your life. For me, the toughest part is not the doing itself, but figuring out what I’m doing for myself and what I’m doing out of peer pressure (parents etc).

Studying is great. It really is. It’s not fullfilling in any way, but it takes a fair chunk of time out of my days – and that tends to keep me focused. It’s like grinding lowstakes to build up a bankroll – the reward comes later.

Thing is, I’m kind of missing my old life. Even though my mindset is a bit broken, I can’t help but wondering if this is the right path for me right now. In the back of my head, I kind of know it is – but it’s hard not missing the highs of a mid/highstakes poker career. Not to mention the $EV that comes with it…

I know it’s not for me right now, but I’m hoping I´ll be back grinding more seriously again next year. I’m never going to be that guy who didn’t take some time off and instead slowly lost it all, but sometimes it’s tempting going back to my old lifestyle. Oh well, everything usually sorts itself out once you get there. Right now, I’m just staying patient and trying to enjoy a variance free life :)

Love, peace and lots of beer,

Being a student is weird. No more late nights. No  more 14 hour grindsessions. I’m actually trying to do the whole school thingey right. I’m attending classes and starting my papers in advance. Grinding, on the other hand, has been pretty off lately. As I’ve been writing – my mojo is way of right now. There’s been some 12-tabling 1/2 and stuff, but I haven’t won all that much. Overall, I’m still a bit confused , but I guess I’m pretty happy anyways. Life doesn’t always turn out the way you plan, but I’m honestly feeling school is the right thing for me right now. We’ll see if I go back to highstakes after christmas, or if I´ll just keep on grinding midstakes while finishing my studies. Oh well, whatever happens I’m not that worried.  Life has a way of usually sorting itself out.
